| Welcome to the home of the most delicious calzone (Zappis) served on the coast between San Francisco and Eureka! Once inside the door you'll soon discover why this Fort Bragg pizzeria has been so popular since it opened in 1980. Located just a block from busy State Highway One, Bernillo's is a destination from which to sit down for lunch or dinner or pick up a pizza to go for that camping trip up the Lost Coast or southbound venture into the Mendocino wine country. There is pizza-by-the-slice (from 11am-4pm) and delicious hot subs.
Only the freshest tomatoes are used each day to make the homemade sauce and the dough is made from scratch from a secret recipe original owner Robert Hansen picked up in his native state of Wisconsin. Today owners Lori & Rick Prewitt carry on the proud Bernillo's tradition. Lori's folks pioneered the world famous Greenwood Pier Lodge where she learned the restaurant/inn trade inside out. Rick loves to make their original pizzas. You can select from over 16 toppings with fresh vegetables. What's a Zappis? Well a Zappis is pizza dough rolled thin and stuffed with mounds of vegetables, cheeses, meats and spices. They are sooooo delicious that many look forward to having one every time they visit Fort Bragg. |

 Bernillo's, Review We have never had pizza while visiting Fort Bragg in the past. We usually go for the local seafood or the mandatory trip to the brewery. This time, though, my wife had a hankering for pizza, and the kid sided with her, so off I went to find Bernillo's. I was surprised to see that it was a tiny place not on the main street, but when I walked in, I saw that it was full, with locals coming in for pickups and being greeted by name. As I waited for my pie to be done, I learned that the entire staff was comprised of a husband and wife team that worked frantically non-stop, filling phone orders, dispensing great smelling food while taking good care of the customers sitting at the tables... Their level of energy and friendliness was almost enough to convince me I had come to the right place, but I had to reserve final judgment when I returned to our motel. Ok, so as not to drag this along, and to end the suspense: The pizza was awesome! The sauce was tasty, tangy, and not overpowering. The crust was cooked perfectly. The sausage was in great big, tasty chunks. The pepperoni was spicy and delicious. The mushrooms were fresh sliced. In short (haha, too late for that, right?), we were very pleased by our choice. Next time, I think we'll eat in, so my family can enjoy the entire experience. Who would've thought we would find perfect pizza at a coastal beach town? Definitely recommended. Bernillo's, Review From the friendliness of the owners Rick and Lori to the made-right-in-front-of-you homemade pizza (which was spectacular), this place is my new fave in town. I live in Santa Rosa but come up to Fort Bragg quite often. I will DEFINITELY return.
